Through the IAS 2019 Scholarship Programme, the organizers of the 10th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2019) commit themselves to making the conference accessible to community representatives, healthcare workers, junior investigators and media representatives from resource-limited settings.
The IAS 2019 Scholarship Programme achieved unprecedented success, attracting more than 3,600 applications. In total, 89 recipients across 59 countries were awarded support to attend IAS 2019.
International scholarships are open to anyone around the world working or volunteering in the field of HIV and AIDS and who is at least 16 years old at the time of the conference.
The distribution of international scholarships is prioritized according to these criteria:
The IAS 2019 Scholarship Programme awarded 75 international scholarships for IAS 2019.
In addition, the IAS Educational Fund awarded 122 scholarships to clinicians and direct HIV service providers from resource-limited settings to attend IAS 2019.
The IAS/AVAC Media Scholarship Programme makes IAS 2019 accessible to a select group of journalists who would not otherwise be able to attend and report on the conference proceedings. The programme also provides training on HIV research, a series of briefings through the conference week and targeted support to help journalists strengthen their HIV reporting skills.
The partnership between the IAS and AVAC builds off the traditional IAS Media Scholarship Programme to offer increased support and training for selected journalists. In total, 14 media scholars are supported to attend IAS 2019, and to participate in a dedicated pre-conference workshop.
